The Haas Brothers Bring Their Fantastical World Home to Austin

This fall, the Blanton Museum of Art is welcoming two Austin-raised artists back to the city with an exhibition unlike anything else on its calendar.

Haas Brothers: Uncanny Valley opens September 27, 2026, bringing together more than 80 works created by twin artists Nikolai and Simon Haas over the past 15 years.

From Austin to the International Art World

Nikolai and Simon Haas grew up in Austin in a highly creative family—their father was a sculptor, and their mother was an opera singer.

The brothers established their Los Angeles studio in 2010 and became known for colorful, imaginative work that blends sculpture, ceramics, furniture, textiles and digital technology. Their art has since been shown internationally and added to major museum collections.

Bringing this exhibition to Austin creates a fitting full-circle moment for two artists whose creative foundation began here.

What to Expect

Uncanny Valley features fantastical creatures, sculptural furniture, hand-built ceramics and algorithmically generated landscapes.

Some pieces are furry and oversized. Others are made from bronze, porcelain, marble, wool or intricate beadwork. The work can be humorous and strange, but it is also remarkably detailed and technically complex.

The exhibition includes several of the brothers’ best-known series, including their personality-filled Beasts, digitally created Endless Paintings and elaborate Freaks developed through collaborations with artisan communities.

You do not need an art background to enjoy it. The exhibition is colorful, playful and built to spark curiosity.
